Independance day!

Armenian independance day was this past Thursday (so I took Friday off and had a nice, long four-day weekend). I got the truck's oil changed, got it washed, and I got a hair cut - all for $12. That was on Friday. On Thursday Misty and I went downtown early to catch the parade hat was to start at 10AM. It's Armenia, so the parade proper didn't really start hopping until nearly 11AM. I put up a small gallary here: http://www.jetsetset.net/images/armmilparade/

Enjoy!

Bang! Bang! It's ok. I'm a doctor!

So I took down a big chunk of that last posting. I'm afraid that the people involved didn't find my comments as humorous as I. I really didn't intend for the posting to poke fun at anyone I was simply trying to show that you can look at every situation from different angles – granted I always try and find the weirdest angle. Living overseas, among different races and religions really changes your tune to the point of actually feeling WEIRD in a restaurant full of pasty white Americans.

If I happened to be eating dinner in such a place here, I'd feel the need to leave immediately so as not to be targeted. We're too easy to bomb that way – as in Jordan, Egypt, Bali, etc, etc... Being in the States for a good bit of this past month really let me realize that I'm not ready to move back yet and that living in 'hardship posts' is rarely easy but it certainly isn't boring! I have a great example that happened just last night. The 4Runner gets its fair bit of stares here – usually because it's so filthy, dirty and at the same time considered exotic – but a guy driving a Niva (LOL, MSWord thinks Niva should be Nova, and I'm not so sure it isn't right) nearly ran us off the road last night so that he could exclaim (in BUSTED-ASS English I might add) that he and we should "Go hunting! You know bang, bang with finger-on-the-trigger motioning and all." I played along with a quick, "No thanks pal!" but had to draw the line at, "It's ok. I'm a doktor!"

Um. Riiiight. We left him stranded in traffic and I darted down a couple of side roads. Enthusiastic, hunting doctors don't really figure in to our social needs at this particular moment. Armenia has its fair share of hillbillies and that's part of why I like it so much here.

Sorry again to anyone that was offended by the "Corn from a jar post" – I really don't think you're any weirder that Doctor Shoot 'em up. I really don't make this stuff up.
